What Is Remote Interpreting
Remote interpreting is oral interpreting where the interpreter is not physically present but joins the conversation by video or phone call. The participants can be in different locations – in Croatia, in Ukraine or anywhere else.
It saves time and travel costs, and it allows interpreting to be arranged even when the participants cannot meet in person.
Platforms and Methods
- Video calls: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Skype or another platform as agreed
- Phone calls: for shorter conversations with institutions, doctors or business partners
- Consecutive interpreting: the speaker pauses and the interpreter renders the message – the most common form for meetings and conversations (more about consecutive interpreting)
- Simultaneous interpreting: on platforms that support separate interpretation channels, such as Zoom (more about simultaneous interpreting)
When It Is Suitable
- Online business meetings: meetings and negotiations with partners in Ukraine or Croatia
- Calls with institutions: phone or video calls with offices, banks and insurers
- Medical consultations: video consultations with a doctor
- Job interviews: online interviews with employers
- Participants in different locations: when the parties cannot meet in the same place
What You Need for Good Interpreting
- A stable internet connection: so the sound is clear and uninterrupted
- A microphone or headset: sound quality directly affects the accuracy of interpreting
- Link and topic in advance: send the meeting link and a short description of the topic
- Documents: if documents will be discussed, send them in advance
